Sweet | Filipina | Marian Rivera

Marian Gracia Rivera, more popularly known as Marian Rivera (born August 12, 1984 in Madrid, Spain) is a famous Filipina actress and commercial model. Her first TV role came in 2005 via TAPE Inc.'s afternoon drama, Kung Mamahalin Mo Lang Ako. However, her breakout role did not come until she was casted for the title role in the Philippine remake of MariMar. She was awarded with the title "Phenomenal TV Star" in the 38th Box-Office Entertainment Awards.

Early Life:

Rivera was born in Madrid, Spain to an interracial couple; Spaniard named Francisco Javier Gracia and a Filipina named Amalia Rivera. When her parents separated 2 years after her birth, Rivera and her mom left Spain and flew back to her mother's hometown in the Philippines. However, her mother had to leave to continue her work commitment abroad that she was sent to her maternal grandmother, Francisca Rivera in Bacoor, Cavite.

Education:

Rivera attended local private schools in Cavite including Saint Francis of Assisi College System where she spent her Elementary and High School years and De La Salle University-Dasmariñas for college. She had a 3-month practicum at the National Mental Hospital, after which she graduated with a degree in A.B. Psychology.

Early work:

Rivera left her hometown to pursue a career as a ramp and commercial model. Not long after, she landed an appearance on TV advertisements for Skin White Lotion and Sky Flakes crackers where she was seen by TAPE Inc.'s executive producer, Tony Tuviera.From then on, she starred in a series of afternoon soap operas for TAPE Inc. and GMA Network such as Kung Mamahalin Mo Lang Ako, Agawin Mo Man Ang Lahat (where she was named as the Best New Female TV Personality at the 2006 PMPC Star Awards and Pinakamamahal along with Oyo Boy Sotto as her main leading man. GMA Network then cast her into mother roles for the afternoon Philippine-Malaysian drama Muli and the primetime telefantasya Super Twins.

MariMar

Marian Rivera rose to fame when she won an audition for the title role of MariMar, the remake of the Mexican telenovela which starred Thalía. Before the auditions, Marian knew little about the character as she was only 11 years old when the original soap opera aired on Philippine TV. Rivera then took the time out to do a research about the role over the internet. Other actresses who took part on the auditions were Nadine Samonte, Katrina Halili, Jennylyn Mercado, Karylle, Jewel Mische, and Bianca King.

Sweet Filipina - Pauleen Luna

Pauleen Luna (born November 10, 1988 in Manila, Philippines) is a Filipina actress and television personality, who is one of the hosts in the Philippine television program Eat Bulaga!. She appears in several GMA Network programs.

Pauleen Luna joined in the Little Miss Philippines contest of Eat Bulaga! in 1995. She then started acting at the age of 13 and becoming a member of Star Circle Batch 11 before transferring to GMA 7.

In 2006, she ranked #9 in the FHM-Philippines list of the sexiest women and was featured in the cover of the December 2006 issue of UNO Magazine.

Why? Because I’m the shy, pa-tweetums type? Actually, I was super shocked that you asked. I never thought you’d consider me. This is such an honor. To be an FHM cover girl means you think I’m beautiful, sexy, hot. It’s a privilege.

Why the change of image?
My manager, tito Manny Valera, explained to us thoroughly that I’d be packaged as sexy, regal, and sophisticated. Yung hindi bastusin. I realized it’s a great time to do this right now. I want to feel sexy and take care of my body and well-being some more.

FHM interview with Hazel Ann:

This is your first bikini shoot!
I was nervous because it’s my first time to pose in a swimsuit. Pero excited ako kasi pag nakakikita ako ng FHM iniisip kong gusto ko rin lumabas dito. Besides, nagtu-two-piece naman ako sa beach. It was my mom who had qualms about it. Even when my manager Manny Valera said I should go for it, I waited for my mom’s go signal.

Niña JoseWas going the sexy route how you saw your career path would be?
It never really crossed my mind then because all I knew was magpa-tweetums, ha ha! Siyempre nakikita ko yung mga nagpo-pose for FHM and I really find them sexy—I never thought I could be like them. When I transferred to Direk Manny’s stable, he prepped me to start taking on more mature roles. And I’m okay with that, pero sabi ko, “Wait lang, pero hindi ko pa po kaya yung bed scenes or nudity.” As of now, I’m fine with swimsuits. Pero kung kasing katawan ko na si Beyoncé, why not? Ha ha!

Jennylyn Mercado Six Weeks Pregnant

ABS-CBN's Star Patrol received a text message from a showbiz insider that actress Jennylyn Mercado is pregnant with the child of actor Patrick Garcia. This piece of news was soon confirmed by Mercado's own manager, Becky Aguila.

According to Garcia, he and Mercado had already gone to the Makati City Hall to consult a judge about the possibilty of a civil wedding.

“Jennylyn is 6 weeks pregnant. I want to set things right sana at panagutan siya,” said Garcia, who added that he wanted to do the right thing for his girlfriend.

After talking to the judge for over an hour, the couple decided to hold off the wedding and reconsider when the best time for the wedding would be.

“The judge said it is easy to get married, but for the right reasons daw sana. Sabi niya we still have time,” said the actor.

Garcia also said that he is taking into consideration the fact that his sister Cheska, also an actress, is scheduled to tie the knot this year. The actor is well aware of the belief in "sukob" or wedding curse.

According to Filipino belief, no marriage should happen within the family if an immediate family member has either died or gotten married within the same year. If this is not followed, disaster and tragedy will happen.

Mercado meanwhile said that she is already feeling the effects of her pregnancy. “Masakit na ang tiyan ko, nahihilo ako. Morning sickness,” she said.

The couple said that they never considered hiding the truth from the public, adding that what matters most to them is that they love each other.
